This beautiful necklace is a bit of a mystery! It has a hang tag with a maker’s mark that looks like an M, or maybe an MI, with a dot. This is not Monet. I posted it in an identification forum, and got not answers. The metals all test as sterling silver, gold plated, but I don’t see any purity marks on it. The pearls are real, I’m quite confident. The test I usually go by is to rub it on the edge of your tooth, and if it’s gritty, it’s a pearl… these are not gritty, but by looking at the holes drilled in them, and the beautiful rainbow lustre, I’m quite certain that these are pearls. Not all real pearls feel gritty. Perhaps these are even a better quality than most! They are hand-knotted on white silk between each pearl, and then there are sections of beautiful hammered gold plated sterling. I really love this piece. It is very well-made! The links are all beautifully soldered, so no gaps. I believe this to have been made by hand by an artist with a smaller jewelry line.
